Coconuts

We're learning about the Fruits of the Spirit in Children's Church. Every fruite has a natural fruit to go with it, as an object lesson.

Yesterday we learned about longsuffering (patience). The fruit we used was Coconut. How does the coconut show patience? It takes a long time to wait for the coconut to be ready to harvest, to actually climb up the tree and get it, to crack it open, to scrape out the fruit and finally to eat it. Patience is required.

Anyway, I bought a coconut and we cracked it open (with a hammer, the kids loved that). We poured the milk into cups and everyone got to try it. They all hated it. It was amusing. I did take some coconut flavored candy along too. That they liked, a lot.

We had fun. Oh an remember: Patience is a Virtue!

Hmm, so I'm allergic to coconuts AND I have no patience. I had never linked the two before but it makes perfect sense now.

Food and fun is a great way to teach a lesson - for all ages.
