I'm A What?

So, I was at Walmart and this kid walked over to our line. She must have been about 8 years old. She looked at the lady in front of me and said something to her and the lady smiled. I though she knew the kid. Turns out, nope.

The Kid looks at me and said "You're a Norby!"

I looked at her and said "Am I?"

She just looked at me, shook her head and walked away.

OK then!

I took out my phone and tweeted that I may have just been insulted by an 8 year old but I had to go home and check google first.

I came home and went right to Google. Google didn't really help me. But, it occured to me that Urban Dictionary might be better suited to this question. Yup! It was!

Turns out I WAS insulted by an 8 year old!

According to Urban Dictionary a "Norby" is "A very uncool and sometimes naive white person."

I'm sure her parents are tons of fun to be around! Charming and Classy and all that!

A Wee Bit Of Me Wednesday

I've never linked up here before but I figured since I'm on vacation and not really blogging regularly I would give this a shot. :) If you want to play click the box and share a wee bit of yourself!

{one} have you ever been stuck in an elevator?
No way! I would Hate that! I would keep thinking it was going to break and plummet to the ground! Panic attack!

{two} have you ever ridden on an elephant?

Yes! I have! I was at a circus once a Long time ago and I rode the elephant with my brother. I think it was my brother anyway! :)

{three} have you ever met a well known celebrity?
I met Mark Sheppard! I'm not sure how "well known" he is but he's been in just about everything! Google him, he was probably in one of your favorite shows. He was very nice and I was thrilled to have met him!

{four} do you have any food allergies?
Nope, not one. :) So thankful!

{five} do you know how to sew?
Well, I can sew a button back on. I can also sew a small tear here of there but as far as Little House on the Prairie make your own clothes kind of sewing, No. Not at all.

{six} did you get an allowance when you were young?
Nope. My Dad was of the opinion that if you want money you need to work for it. He figured it didn't mean as much to you if you just had it handed to you. I think he was right.

{seven} how often do you fill up your gas tank?
Haha, around payday! :)

{eight} have you ever been stung by a jelly fish?
Nope.

{nine} have you ever been robbed?
Yes! As a matter of fact just before we came to Pennsylvania the stereos were stolen out of both of our vehicles. I was/am Unhappy!!

{ten} what is the worst haircut you’ve ever had?
I asked for a layered haircut. She pulled up a section and chopped it. She grabbed another section a little further down and chopped it and then she cut the bottom straight across. I was not happy with that haircut. I mean, really?

Sunday Silly - Only In America

I hope you're having a nice Sunday. Here is something from my inbox that might make you smile. :)

I love Only in America stuff!

Only In America

Only in America
.........do drugstores make the sick walk all the way to the back of the store to get their prescriptions while healthy people can buy cigarettes at the front.

Only in America
........do banks leave both doors open and then chain the pens to the counters.

Only in America
.........do we leave cars worth thousands of dollars in the driveway and put our useless junk in the garage.

Only in America
.........do we buy hot dogs in packages of ten and buns in packages of eight.

Only in America
.........do we use the word 'politics' to describe the process so well: 'Poli' in Latin meaning 'many' and 'tics' meaning 'bloodsucking creatures'.

Only in America
........do they have drive-up ATM machines with Braille lettering.

My Water Did That!?

Back when it was still cold around Oklahoma we had a few VERY COLD nights.

One day there was a note on our door reminding us to leave our faucets dripping so that the pipes wouldn't freeze.

Before bed I went around and turned all our faucets on just enough for tiny drips to squeeze out.

It didn't take long before the DRIP! DRIP! DRIP! DRIP! DRIP! DRIP! DRIP! DRIP! from the kitchen sink began to drive me insane.

So I put a dish rag across the middle of the sink and moved the faucet so the water would hit the rag. Ahh, much better!

When I washed towels I threw that dish rag in the washer. When they was done washing I moved them to the dryer. When they were done drying I moved them to the basket and dumped them out to fold them.

When I picked up the rag that had been dripped on all night I was a bit surprised at what I saw . . .

It looks like I spilled Bleach on it! That's from my Water! What on earth!? This right here is why we don't drink the water. (This and the fact that we often get notes in the mail about how our water didn't test right and we shouldn't drink it.)

Can't imagine WHY!

HGotW - James Marsters

How about a Buffy the Vampire Slayer edition of Hot Guy of the Week?

I asked for suggestions and this is one I received. So, here we go!

James Marsters and Juliet Landau played Spike and Drusilla in a couple seasons of Buffy. Spike, he couldn't make up his mind whether he wanted to be a bad guy or a good guy but Dru, she knew. There was no wishy washy with Drusilla. She was evil and she owned it!

There's Lots (or so very much) of debate of who was the best couple of the Buffy series. Buffy and Angel? Buffy and Spike? Spike and Drusilla? (And a whole bunch more that don't really fit into this post.) Personally I'm a Buffy/Angel fan and a Spike/Dru fan.

Anyway, it doesn't matter who I like, really. How about some pictures?

James Marsters

I like this one a lot.

Juliet Landau

I think this one is really pretty!

That's it for this weeks edition of HGotW! Thanks for stopping by! Come back again!

My First Giveaway!

I walked into Bath and Body Works a couple weeks ago to have a look around and I spied these Pocket Size Anti-Bacterial hand sanitizers.

I fell in love! I spent quite a while sniffing them all trying to decide which one(s) I should buy!

They're the perfect size for your pocket. Or, you can get this awesome PocketBac Holder that you can attach to your purse or key chain and take it anywhere. Very user-friendly.

(This is my key chain. See? I use the prize myself!)

I was looking at my awesome little PocketBac's and thought that they might make a fun little giveaway. So, here it is. My very First Giveaway!

Should you win, this is what you will receive:

The scents are Rock Candy (One of my Favorites! LOVE IT!), Sweet Pea, Warm Vanilla Sugar, Stylish Strawberry and Berry Crush. Also comes with one of those nifty holders to attach it to whatever you would like. :)

Entries are simple.

1. Follow my blog and leave me a comment letting me know you are. (This is good for current followers and brand new followers.)

2. Follow me on Twitter: Justaddjava (This is good for TWO entries! Leave two separate comments. The reason this is good for TWO entries is because I KNOW I tweet  lot and for some it may be a nuisance to follow me.) :)

3. Tweet about my little giveaway with a link back to my blog. Leave me a comment with a link to your tweet.

4. If you want another two entries  you can leave a little post on your own blog about my little giveaway. (Leave two separate comments with links to your post.)

The last day I'll be accepting entries is May 16, 2011.

I apologize to my followers across the pond and beyond the border but this contest is open only to US Residents.  :(  (Mostly because I'm not sure how to ship over there!)

randomtuesday

1. The Kiddo is sick again! What the heck?! He had a fever but we killed it with Tylenol. Now, he's coughing. Maybe because of the change in location? (air, water, etc.) I have no idea.

2. J's flying home today. It doesn't seem like we've already been here a week! The Kiddo and I are staying for a couple more weeks.

3. J's flight was delayed about fifty times due to weather! He's going to miss his connecting flight in Chicago! I hope they get him another flight home that's not too much later.

4. Destination Truth mid season finale is on tonight. I Love This Show! I really wish they had a few more episodes per season!

5. I haven't had Diet Coke in days! I'm going into withdrawal. I'm drinking Wild Cherry Pepsi right now. NOT the same!!!

6. I have the option of going back to Philly on Saturday Just to hang out for a couple hours while my Dad goes to check out a car for sale. I'm considering it. If the weather will cooperate that is. I didn't get to go to Independence Hall or the Liberty Bell while we were there Thursday. I've seen them both before but it's been years.

7. My cousin (Who's like my sister) told me to download Flood-It on Rupert. Now I'm addicted. Then she said "You need more games. Get Angry Birds." Then I downloaded Angry Birds. *Sigh*  She's a bad influence.

8. I'm having a Tiny Little Giveaway. I'll introduce it tomorrow. It's my first so it really is only little but it's something that I like. I wouldn't give away something I wouldn't want myself. So, check in tomorrow for a little giveaway! (Open to US residents only because I'm not sure of all the details regarding overseas/across the border shipping.)

I think that's enough. I'm not sure anyone will even read this since it's soooo late!

Making Paper at the Franklin Institute

We have done So much since we arrived here on Tuesday!

On Thursday we went to the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia. If I tried to write a post about everything we did there it would be fifteen pages long! So, I thought maybe I should do a couple different posts.

One of the first things we did when we got there was make paper. That was pretty neat. I had forgotten that that was one of the things we could do.

The Kiddo went first. The guy put some sort of orange pulpy looking stuff in the bucket of water and stirred it around. He told us what the orange stuff was but I missed what he said.

Anyway, he stirred it and then let the Kiddo help him lower the screen down into the water. They swished it once or twice and then pulled it all back out.

He set it down and gave the Kiddo a sponge and told him to sponge the water off. So, the Kiddo patted the screen with the sponge and squeezed it back into the tub a few times.

Then the guy turned the "paper" that was on the screen out onto a piece of felt, covered it with another piece of felt, put it in a giant press and the Kiddo and my Brother turned the crank. They pressed a lot more water out of it before they unwound the crank.

The man carefully pulled the paper off the press and rolled it up in a piece of paper securing it with a rubber band.

After it was dry we unrolled it. Here is the finished product. A piece of paper made by the Kiddo!

I forgot that the guy dropped little Flyer's logos in the tub so when we made the paper there would be Flyer's logos on it. Philadelphia, you know. :)

Sunday Silly - Haunting Questions

One more from the ole' inbox!

Enjoy!

QUESTIONS THAT HAUNT ME!

Can you cry under water?

How important does a person have to be before they are considered assassinated instead of just murdered?

Why do you have to "put your two cents in"... but it's only a "penny for your thoughts"? Where's that extra penny going to?

Why does a round pizza come in a square box?

What disease did cured ham actually have?

How is it that we put man on the moon before we figured out it would be a good idea to put wheels on luggage?

Why is it that people say they "slept like a baby" when babies wake up like every two hours?

If a deaf person has to go to court, is it still called a hearing?

Why are you IN a movie, but you're ON TV?

Why do people pay to go up tall buildings and then put money in binoculars to look at things on the ground?

Why do toasters always have a setting that burns the toast to a horrible crisp, which no decent human being would eat?

If Jimmy cracks corn and no one cares, why is there a stupid song about him?

If the professor on Gilligan's Island can make a radio out of a coconut, why can't he fix a hole in a boat?

Why does Goofy stand erect while Pluto remains on all fours? They're both dogs!

If Wile E. Coyote had enough money to buy all that ACME crap, why didn't he just buy dinner?

If corn oil is made from corn, and vegetable oil is made from vegetables, what is baby oil made from?

Do the Alphabet song and Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star have the same tune?

Why did you just try singing the two songs above?

Did you ever notice that when you blow in a dog's face, he gets mad at you, but when you take him for a car ride, he sticks his head out the window?

Cats! Cats?

Overheard in my house -

Kiddo: Daddy, can we go outside and play?

J: No, it's too cold outside, you'll get sick.

Kiddo: Daddy, cold doesn't make you sick.

Me: Kiddo, what makes you sick?

Kiddo: Cats!

Well, in his defense, cats do make him sick. :)

HGotW: Tim Hutton

Like last week I was going to wait until the new season of Leverage premiered to post this weeks Hot Guy but I just couldn't wait.

In case you haven't notice "Hot" around here can be interpreted many different ways. Hot, Cute, Sexy, Adorable, Drool Worthy, etc. So, if one of our guys doesn't strike you as "hot" maybe he falls into one of these other categories.

I know I saw this weeks guy before Leverage but I don't think I could tell you where. And, to be honest when I first watched Leverage I was all about Christian Kane. However . . . It didn't take long before I noticed that other guy!

Oh my word! And his voice and his hair and he's just so . . . *Sigh*

And just so I'm not thought of as totally shallow I have to say this guy is a great actor! (He won an Oscar, for crying out loud!) Leverage is lots of fun, of course but there are other things that he's done that are really good as well.

I enjoyed Five Days to Midnight at lot. (I LOVE the chemistry he has with Kari Matchett and I really wish she were on Leverage more!) I also really liked Beautiful Girls. It took me FOREVER to watch that movie because I was totally afraid I was going to be grossed out but I wasn't. It's a good movie.

Oh, enough talk!

Tim Hutton

Seriously, that hair. I really want to play with it. (No, I am Not creepy!)

Although, I must say I do wonder sometimes what these people would think if they stumbled on my blog one day and I was all "drooly" about them. Creeped out? Flattered? Calling the lawyer for a restraining order?

I was going to go with a different lady today but I thought I would keep the Leverage theme going. So, my choice for today is . . .

Beth Riesgraf

Beth just seems so sweet. I love watching interviews and reading her Twitter. She is also a very talented photographer.

Together . . .

You can follow both Tim and Beth on Twitter here: @TimHutton and @BethJRiesgraf

Kissing the Blarney Stone

If you've been reading this blog for a bit you probably know that I'm a big fan of Ireland.

I want to visit Ireland more than I want to visit anywhere else on earth! It's been a desire of mine for years and years and years. My best friend and I talked about it for a bit but life happened and the trip didn't. I admit, I was disappointed. Even though I was pretty sure from the beginning that we weren't actually going to make it there.

I've often thought of what I would do there if I got to go. What things I would put on my "Must Do In Ireland" list?

A visit to a castle? Definitely! Lunch in a pub? A must! Kissing the Blarney stone? Of course!

This was my list until I talked to my Mom . . .

While at work one day she met a man and they began to talk. He told her that his Mom was from Ireland and she would tell them all sorts of stories. My Mom, of course, informed him that I have always wanted to visit there.

Then he told her the story of the blarney stone! He said his Mom told them the story of when she was younger, her young male friends would go to the blarney stone . . . and PEE ON IT!! (Ick! Gag! Gross!!) Then, they would stand back and watch as the people lined up to kiss it.

DISGUSTING!!!!!

He did tell my Mom that this was a long time ago when his Mother was younger. He also said he was pretty sure there were still kids today that found this sort of entertainment amusing.

Moral: Don't kiss the blarney stone unless A. you're REALLY brave or B. you take your own disinfectant! Maybe both!

Random Tuesday Thoughts!

Random Tuesday Thoughts by Keely is still on Hiatus but that won't stop the rebels! We're linking up over at Stacy's place. Feel free to join us! Click the box!

randomtuesday

1. The Kiddo was sick a few days last week! I don't like him to be sick but if he HAD to be sick I'm glad it was LAST week and not today because we're getting on an airplane today and THAT would be bad!

2. We're getting on an airplane today! Two PM flight! Excited! (Although, I hate the airport!)

3. Does anyone know how to blog from a phone? Like, can I text or e-mail a post? Or is there an app for that?? An app that I can write a post with and post it? Maybe along with a picture? Or do I just need to go to the web on the phone and do it from there?

4. I have a friend. (A few actually, don't look so surprised.) Anyway, this particular friend is The thriftiest person I know with amazing Amazon skills. She has a Gorgeous little girl (who was born 3 mo. premature but is doing amazing now at 16 mo.) and another baby on the way! I've been after her to start blogging for a while now and she Finally did! Please check out her blog! The Save At Home Mom

5. Saw a Really Neat idea for Easter at Our Life in a Click. A yarn maze, leading to an Easter basket! So cool! Totally planning on using that!

6. I hope that while I'm in Pennsylvia I don't forget all my TKD! I guess I'll need to take some time to practice while I'm there. I'm so self conscious though . . . I'll have to hide somewhere so no one can see me! lol

7. I'm going to Pennsylvania today!!!!! (At least that's the plan!!!!!!) I'm SOOOO EXCITED!!!! Did I say that already? Oh well! There it is again!!!

8. Thursday (At least this is the plan) we're going to Philadelphia. J wants to see the art museum. Something to do with Rocky . . . I hate that movie . . . Anyway! After (before?) that we're heading to the Franklin Institue for some fun. I think the Kiddo will love it! I haven't been there since I was Little. Like, really little. I'm excited!

9. Monday night the stereos were stolen out of both our car and our truck. I'm SO CRANKY! Apparently it happened ALL over our town! Those were NICE stereo/CD players! However, I am thankful that thats all that was stolen and we're all safe. But I want my stereo back!

I think that's enough random for today. I hope you all have a great day!!

Scavenger Hunt Sunday! (On Monday!) III

For the past couple weeks I've been linking up over at Ramblings and Photos for Scavenger Hunt Sunday. I'm going to link up this week too! I'm not sure that I'll make it for the next couple weeks since we'll be in Pennsylvania but for today, I'm here!

If you want to know what it's all about grab this box and find out!

The prompts this week were 1. Motion 2. Waiting to Click 3. Fashion 4. Animals Perspective and 5. Many. I've been busy this week so some of these aren't really what I wanted but a couple of them are favorites so I suppose it balances out!

1. Motion
A car in definite motion. I snapped this one riding along the freeway. In case you couldn't guess this is not one of my favorites. It is, however, one of my last minute photos!

2. Waiting to Click

You have to wait for that perfect time when snapping a sunset. Not too high, not too low.

3. Fashion

Another one of my least favorites. Not exactly very "fashionable" but lots of clothes! I was working on packing for our trip and snapped a quick picture.

Stay tuned. The next two I really like!

4. Animals Perspective
I. Love. This. Picture.
Taking a picture from an animals perspective was interesting. This is what it must look like to a cat or a dog when you are about to pet it. I even did the black and white because of the "Dog's are color blind" thing. (Who decided that anyway? Did someone interview a dog??)
Anyway, this is my favorite of this week!!

5. Many

The Kiddo has tried to pack his rock collection to take to show Grammy more than once now. I told him that there was no way those rocks were getting on the plane but we would take a picture to show Grammy. So, here it is. The Kiddo's rock collection. Many many rocks!

So, that's it for this weeks scavenger hunt. Like I said, I was a bit lazy with a couple of these but for me the "Animal's Perspective" picture makes up for it. I really love that one!

I hope you have a great day!!

Sunday Silly - Dear Abby

Time for another e-mail. I did not write this I simply received it in my inbox and I'm passing it along for you to enjoy as well!

How would you answer these?!

Dear Abby

Dear Abby, A couple of women moved in across the hall from me. One is a middle-aged gym teacher and the other is a social worker in her mid twenties. These two women go everywhere together and I've never seen a man go into or leave their apartment. Do you think they could be Lebanese?

Dear Abby, What can I do about all the Sex, Nudity, Fowl Language and Violence on My VCR?

Dear Abby, I have a man I can't trust. He cheats so much, I'm not even sure the baby I'm carrying is his.

Dear Abby, I am a twenty-three year old liberated woman who has been on the pill for two years. It's getting expensive and I think my boyfriend should share half the cost, but I don't know him well enough to discuss
money with him.

Dear Abby, I've suspected that my husband has been fooling around, and when confronted with the evidence, he denied everything and said it would never happen again.

Dear Abby, I joined the Navy to see the world. I've seen it. Now how do I get out?

Dear Abby, I was married to Bill for three months and I didn't know he drank until one night he came home sober.

Remember these people can vote!!

Shopping Cards

Here in Oklahoma, as well I'm sure in other areas, we have gas pumps at our Walmart. They typically have the cheapest gasoline around. But there's even more incentive to purchase your gasoline at Walmart.

You see, if you go inside and put some money on one of these:

Then you get three cents off per gallon. I know three cents doesn't sound like much but lately . . . it adds up!

Anyway, we get these gasoline cards and sometimes I reuse a card but more often than not I'm in a hurry. I run into the store, purchase a card and head for the gas pumps. I empty the card at the pump and toss it in my purse.

What I'm left with is this:

A stack of empty gift cards in a pocket of my purse.

When I notice this pile of cards, do I throw them away? No way! Some of them are really cute! Of course that's not why I don't throw them away. I keep them because occasionally there are times when you're stuck somewhere boring with a four year old.

Four year olds like to play with things. They also have good imaginations. You see, a stack of cards like this could also be a . . .

A pretend deck of cards. Or . . .

Supplies to build cute little buildings. Or . . .

They can fight each other! (That's a poplular one among the boys.)

See? A four year old can do a lot with leftover shopping cards.

They're not the best toy on the block but they do well in a pinch. I'll keep that stack of cards in my purse.

HGotW: James Roday

I was going to wait until Psych came back with new episodes to feature this guy but I just couldn't wait.

Do you watch Psych? You really should! It's LOTS of fun! I love the characters so much! I can't really pick out which one is my favorite because they're all great!

Psych is sort of a comedy version of The Mentalist (and Shawn actually references The Mentalist a few times in the series).

Shawn Spencer is hyper-observant (is that a thing? Oh well, it is now), noticing all kinds little details that others miss. Using this talent he poses as a psychic and opens a detective agency with his best friend. The police often call on him to aid in solving cases using his "psychic" abilities. It is a very entertaining and funny show! Give it a try!

Tired of my exposition? Just want some Hot Guy? Alright, here ya go . . .

James Roday

Seriously, I just love him.

This weeks featured female also stars in Psych as Police Detective Juliet O'Hara.

Maggie Lawson

And Together . . .

Shawn and Juliet

James and Maggie
(I love this pic!)

That's all for today! I hope you enjoyed it! Come back!
